Privacy Policy
ChefSnap and ChefSnap Kitchen · Last updated 29 September 2026
The short version. You do not need an account to use ChefSnap. We do not ask for your name, your email or your phone number, and we do not sell anything about you to anybody. What you save, what you put on your shopping list and what you tell us is in your kitchen stays on your own device.
What stays on your device
These never leave the phone or browser you are using. They are not sent to us, and we cannot read them:
- Dishes you save
- Your shopping list
- The ingredients you tick in the Cook tab
- The language you chose
- Which dishes you looked at recently
Deleting the app, or clearing your browser's site data, removes all of it. There is nothing for us to delete on your behalf because we never had it.
What we do collect
We use Google Analytics to understand how the app is used — how many people open it, which screens they reach, whether videos play, and what people search for. This tells us which recipes are worth adding and which parts are broken. It is measured in aggregate; it is not a profile of you.
Specifically, the app reports:
- Screens opened, and how long a session lasts
- Dishes opened, saved, or added to a shopping list
- Videos played, and when a video fails to play
- Search terms typed into the app, and how many results they returned
- Filters applied
- Device type, operating system version, and approximate country
- The language you chose
Search terms are the only free text collected. We use them to find gaps in the catalogue — a search that returns nothing is a recipe worth adding. Please do not type anything private into the search box.
IP addresses are anonymised, and Google's advertising features are switched off: your activity here is not used to target adverts anywhere.
What we do not collect
- No name, email address, phone number or postal address
- No contacts, photos, camera or microphone access — the app does not ask for any of these permissions, and does not have them
- No precise location
- No advertising identifiers, and no cross-app or cross-site tracking
- No payment details. ChefSnap is free and has no purchases
Videos
Recipe videos are YouTube videos, played inside the app through YouTube's
privacy-enhanced player (youtube-nocookie.com). We do not host or copy
them; the creator keeps their view. When a video plays, Google receives the request
and may set cookies or similar storage under
Google's privacy policy.
Who else is involved
- Google Firebase — hosting, the recipe database, and analytics.
- YouTube (Google) — the videos, as described above.
Nobody else. We do not use advertising networks, and we do not share or sell data to third parties.
Children
ChefSnap is a general-audience cooking app. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.
Your choices
- Delete the app, or clear your browser's site data, to remove everything stored on your device.
- On iOS, turning off Allow Apps to Request to Track and limiting analytics in Settings applies here as it does everywhere.
- Write to us at the address below to ask what we hold, or to object.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will be announced in the app.
