Common questions
Can I substitute oat milk with another milk, and how will it change the drink?
Yes. Almond milk makes it lighter and slightly nuttier, while dairy milk gives a creamier, richer latte. Soy milk froths well and tastes neutral. Use unsweetened milk if you want better control over sweetness from the maple syrup.
How long does it take to make an iced matcha latte from start to finish?
About 5 minutes total. Sifting and whisking the matcha takes 1–2 minutes, and assembling the glass takes another 1–2 minutes. If you chill the glass first, it helps the drink stay cold longer.
What are the most common mistakes when making matcha for an iced latte?
Using water that is boiling, skipping the sifting step, or whisking too gently are the biggest issues. Boiling water can make matcha taste bitter, clumps make it gritty, and weak whisking leaves it flat instead of frothy.
Can I make the matcha mixture ahead of time and store it?
You can whisk the matcha with water ahead, but it is best used within a few hours and kept covered in the fridge. The foam will fade and some settling is normal, so whisk or stir again before pouring.
How should I serve it for the best texture and look?
Serve immediately over plenty of ice in a tall clear glass to show the layers. Pour the milk first, then the sweetener, and slowly add the matcha over the back of a spoon or down the side of the glass for a cleaner layered effect.
