Common questions
Can I substitute frozen mango or canned mango pulp for fresh ripe mango in mango lassi?
Yes. Frozen mango works well and often gives a thicker, colder lassi; thaw it slightly first. Canned mango pulp is fine too, but taste it before adding sugar because it may already be sweetened.
How long does it take to make mango lassi from start to finish?
It usually takes about 5 to 10 minutes total. Most of that is peeling and cutting the mango. Blending only takes 30 to 60 seconds once everything is in the blender.
What are the most common mistakes when making mango lassi?
Using under-ripe mango, too much yogurt, or too much liquid can make it sour, thin, or bland. Also avoid overblending for too long, which can warm it and make it less refreshing.
How should I store leftover mango lassi, and how long does it keep?
Store it in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. It may separate as it sits, so stir or shake before serving. For best texture and flavor, drink it the same day.
What is the best way to serve mango lassi?
Serve it chilled in a tall glass, ideally right after blending. Garnish with a pinch of cardamom or a few saffron strands. It pairs well with spicy Indian food or as a refreshing drink on its own.
